Samuel (Sept 12-13)

Samuel (Sept 12-13)

September 9, 2020

This week, we'll continue learning stories from the Old Testament. We will hear about Samuel, one of the judges of Israel.

When you sit at home: Ages 3-K read the story of Samuel and Eli (1 Samuel 3:1-10) and Grades 1-5 read the story of Samuel and the Ark of God (1 Samuel 5:1-4; 7:3-5, 12-13). If your grade school kids don’t know the story of Samuel and Eli, read that one, too! As we read about Samuel, we learn to listen for God to speak to us and to understand the power of His presence. How can you listen to God as a family?

When you walk along the road: Most of us don’t get to hear God’s out-loud voice as Samuel did. However, God helps us know in our hearts what He is saying to us—through the Bible, through people, and through the world He made. When have you known God was speaking to you?

When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Lord, thank You for watching over us. Help is to listen to Your voice and know Your presence every day. Amen.”

When you get up: Ebenezer stone means“stone of help.” Samuel used it to remind everyone how much God had helped them. Make your own Ebenezer stone by writing or drawing a specific time and place when God helped you. Share your story with your family or with a friend.Place the stone where you will see it and remember how God is with you and helps you.
