Ruth (Sept 5-6)

Ruth (Sept 5-6)

September 3, 2020

This week, we'll continue learning stories from the Old Testament. We will hear about Ruth, a woman of character and faith.

When you sit at home: Ages 3-K read Ruth 1:8-18; Grades 1-3 read Ruth 1:16; 2:8-12; 4:14-17; and Grades 4-5 read Ruth 1:16; 2:12, 20; 4:14-17. As we read how God watched over Ruth and her mother-in-law Naomi, we learn how God cares for our needs. Ruth and Naomi were family; they cared for each other deeply and they loved God together. Your family may include more than just the people in your house or extended family members; family may also include close friends or neighbors who care for each other. Who has God given to you as family? How can you love God together?

When you walk along the road: Naomi and Ruth went through hard times, but God blessed them during that time. When has your family gone through something difficult? How did God bless you and bring good out of those hard times?

When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Lord, thank You for the family and friends you give us. Help us to encourage each other and to love You together. Amen”

When you get up: Ruth and Naomi traveled together back to Bethlehem. Next time you are in the car, play a travel game together such as “I Spy,” “21 Questions,” or “I’m Going on a Trip.”“I’m Going on a Trip” starts with one person saying: “I’m going on a trip and I am bringing …” then the name of an item that starts with the letter A. The next person then says: “I’m going on a trip and I am bringing …” then mentions the first item and another item starting with the letter B. The game continues through the alphabet as long as you can go. If a player cannot remember the names of all of the items in the list, they are out. You may offer younger players a few hints if they can’t remember an item.
