This weekend in children’s church, we finish our stories from the Old Testament with the story of Queen Esther. We remember Queen Esther because of the courage she showed to do what was right. We are reminded that God will give us the courage to do what He has called us to do.
When you sit at home: Age 3 through Kindergarten read Esther 2:7, 9; 4:14-16; 5:1-2; 7:1-3. Grades 1-3 read Esther 2:20; 4:12-16; 5:1-4 and grades 4-5 read Esther 2:20; 4:12-16; 5:1-4; 7:3-6. What does it mean to have courage? What did Queen Esther do that showed courage?
When you walk along the road: What did Queen Esther do when she had to decide whether to speak to the king? (She talked with a trusted family member. She asked people to pray and fast with her.) What could you do when you are faced with a difficult decision?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Lord, thank You for giving us the courage for what You have called us to do. Remind us that You will give us the courage to do what is right. Amen.”
When you get up: Have each family member share something he or she has been afraid to do. Talk about how you could help each other to conquer those fears knowing God gives you courage to do what is right.
