This week, we will hear about King Josiah. His story reminds us of the importance of knowing God’s Word and obeying it.
When you sit at home: Read 2 Kings 22:1-2, 18-19; 23:1-4, 25 (Grades 4-5 read 2 Chronicles 34:1-3,27, 29-31; 2 Kings 23:25). Josiah became king when he was 8 years old. Kings have great responsibility to their people and have to make many hard decisions. What do you think would be difficult if you were a king or queen?
When you walk along the road: King Josiah did everything he could to honor God with his words and actions even though God’s people were being disobedient. Have you ever tried to do the right thing even though the people around you were not? What helped you do the right thing?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Lord, thank You for giving us the Bible and people who can help us know what is right and wrong. May we show You our love by obeying You. Amen.”
When you get up: Choose one person to hide a Bible in your home. Have the rest of the family search for it. When it is found, gather everyone together and read Matthew 22:37-39 just like King Josiah and God’s people listened to the reading of God’s laws. Make a family promise to follow God’s laws. For extra fun, let the person who found the Bible hide it again. Go about your day. When the Bible is found, gather the family together and have the person who found the Bible share a favorite Bible story. Continue playing through the week.
