We worship the God who speaks. This weekend in children's church, we continue the story of Joseph and his brothers. We learn Joseph forgave his brothers and that God wants us to forgive each other.
When you sit at home: Ages 3-5 read Genesis 50:17-21. Grades 1-2 read Genesis 45:1-15. Grade 3 reads Genesis 50:15-21. Grades 4-5 read Genesis 39:2, 21;41:15-16, 39-40; 45:4-8; 50:15, 19-21. How do you think Joseph felt when his brothers threw him in the well? How do you think he was able to forgive them?
Ages 4-K Whisper Verse: “Forgive everyone.”
When you walk along the road: What does it mean to forgive? (Forgiving doesn’t mean forgetting or minimizing the hurt you feel. It means letting go of that hurt and the desire to hurt the other person. It often doesn’t happen right away, but God can help us forgive when we give it all to Him.)
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Thank You, Lord, for forgiving us for all the wrong things we do. Help us to forgive others, even when they hurt us on purpose. Amen.”
When you get up: Have each family member write down or draw a picture of someone they need to forgive. Pray together and ask God to help you forgive those people. When you are ready to give your hurt to God and to forgive, tear your paper into pieces and throw it away. Your family may choose to burn the papers as a symbol of letting them go.
