Jesus Is Anointed (Mar 21-22)

March 18, 2020

This weekend in children’s church, we are learning how Mary used one of her treasures to honor Jesus. Children will be reminded to give their treasures to Jesus as an act of worship as Mary did.

When you sit at home: Ages 3-K read John 12:1-3. Grades 1-2 read John 12:2-8. Grade 3 reads John 12:2-11. Grades 4-5 read John 12:2-11; Mark 14:9. Why did Mary give this gift to Jesus? What did Jesus think of Mary’s gift?

When you walk along the road: The treasure we give Jesus could be a favorite possession, but we can also give of our time and talents. We can give our time by spending time in prayer, reading the Bible, worshiping Jesus, and serving others. We can also use our favorite activities to bring people closer to Jesus. What’s one of your favorite activities? How could you use that to show Jesus’ love to others?

When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week“Lord, You gave Your life because You loved us. Show us how we can give a sacrifice of worship to show we love You. Amen.”

When you get up: Make a “Treasure Jar” by decorating a small glass jar with paint, glitter, stickers, or colored markers. Cut paper in strips. As a family, talk about what treasures you can give to Jesus to worship Him. Write each one on a slip of paper and place them in the jar to help you remember to worship Him through giving of your time, talents, and possessions.
