This weekend in children’s church, we will hear about Jesus’ prayer in the garden. In this scripture, Jesus shows us the importance of spending time in prayer.
When you sit at home: Ages 2-3 read Matthew 26:36-41. Grades 1-2 read Matthew 26:36-41, Luke 22:42-43. Grades 3-5 read Matthew 26:36-41, 47-54; Luke 22:51. Why was Jesus “sorrowful and troubled”? Jesus prayed, “My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless,not as I will, but as You will.” What did He mean by “let this cup pass from Me”?
When you walk along the road: When has it been difficult for you to pray “God’s will be done”?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Lord, thank You for being willing to sacrifice Your life for us. Thank You for showing us the importance of prayer. Help us to be able to say “God’swill be done,” knowing You are always with us. Amen.”
When you get up: God heard Jesus’ prayer in the garden. We can pray anywhere and God will hear our prayers. Do a prayer walk inside your house or outdoors. In each place you stop, say a prayer of praise, confession, or a request for help. At the end of each prayer, pray “God’s will be done.”
