Longwood, Fla. — Friday morning at 5:30 a.m., 11 volunteers from our Disaster Response Team were deployed to Fairborn, OH—located just outside of Dayton—to serve in the aftermath of the two recent tornadoes on Memorial Day. Over 50,000 people are without electricity and under a boil water alert.
Northland’s Disaster Response Team was initiated after Hurricanes Charlie, Jean, and Frances, and was first mobilized in 2004, when some of the deadliest tornadoes in Florida’s history swept through the state. The team is made up of volunteers from the congregation and throughout the community.
We hope to provide a hot lunch and dinner to the residents in this area. We are staying at a Victory Temple Church just outside one of the hardest hit areas and close to Wright Patterson Air Force Base. We anticipate our deployment to last 7-10 days, but we will evaluate once we arrive.
Our Disaster Response Coordinator Judy was born in Ohio and graduated from West Carrollton Senior High, in a suburb of Dayton. This area is obviously very near and dear to her heart and it is a blessing to have the opportunity to serve those in her hometown.

Pray also for the families impacted by this tragedy, the health and safety of our team, and that the boiled water alert will be lifted soon.
