Sunday begins the second week of Advent. Advent helps us get our hearts ready to celebrate the coming of Jesus. This weekend in children’s church, we will hear the story of how God sent His angel Gabriel to prepare Mary for the birth of Jesus. We are reminded that the Lord is with us and is pleased with those who believe in His Son!
Ages 4-K Whisper Verse: “The Lord is with you.”
When you sit at home: Age 3-Grade 2 read Luke 1:28-33. Grade 3 reads Luke 1:28-33; Matthew 1:20-21 and Grades 4-5 read Luke 1:28-37; Matthew 1:20-21. How did Mary react when the angel first appeared? She wondered how this could all be possible and it may have been hard for her to believe at first. Read Luke 1:38. What does this show about Mary’s faith?
When you walk along the road: Gabriel came to prepare Mary (and Joseph for the birth of Jesus. During Advent, we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus. How can you prepare your heart to celebrate His birth?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “God, thank You for coming near to us through Your Son Jesus. Help us to remember You are always with us in our hearts. Amen.”
When you get up: Brainstorm ways your family can remind each other that God is with you. Draw a picture of the places you go and title it “The Lord is with you.” Hang it in your home. Exchange names for the next week and send each other notes or text messages during the day with the words “The Lord is with you.” Include favorite Bible verses, songs of God’s care, or other reminders of His presence in your lives.
