Psalm 136 is titled in some Bibles as the “Great Psalm of Remembering.” This psalm is a reminder of who God is, what God has done, and what the response of God’s people should be.
In weaving the picture presented in Psalm 136, it starts and ends with the giving of thanks to God who is good, the God of gods, the Lord of lords, and the God of heaven. The middle section of the Psalm recounts that God is the creator and sustainer of the universe who cares for His people and rescues them from their enemies. It shares how God brings His people into The Promised Land, where they will be provided for and freed from their enemies.
In Psalm 136, it is also noteworthy that twenty-six times, once in every verse, the psalmist states, “God’s love endures forever.” This phrase is a reminder of God’s forever faithfulness to the people whom He loves. Through God’s promise of love, which lasts forever, God gives His people courage and perspective to move forward, always counting on His promises and His faithfulness.
To tell the story of God's people is to recount the faithfulness of God.

During this week take some time to remember and celebrate the love of God which endures forever. Think of something that you are grateful to God for and “Give thanks to the God of heaven…His Love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:26) As an act of faithfulness and obedience, if you have not been baptized, sign up to be baptized next week. Lord, we remember and are thankful for who you are and for all that you have done. From the beginning of time, you have loved your people and you will always love us with a love that endures forever. We ask that you give us protection from our enemies and provision for the days ahead. Give us a passion to love others as you have loved us, sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with our world that so desperately needs you.
