Letters About Forgiveness of Sins (June 19-20)

June 17, 2021

We worship the Holy Spirit who guides us to know what is right and what is wrong in God’s eyes. We all struggle with wanting to do what is right and, sometimes, we choose to do what is wrong instead. We are so grateful to Jesus for rescuing us from the punishment for our sins.

When we worship God together, we can thank God for His forgiveness and goodness toward us. This weekend in children’s church, we will continue reading from the New Testament letters. We’ll talk about how we know we are all sinners who can receive God’s forgiveness through Jesus.

When you sit at home: Age 3-Kindergarten read 1 John 1:8-9. Grades 1-2 read Romans 3:23; 7:19; 1 John 1:9; Galatians 5:22-23. Grade 3 reads Romans 3:23; 5:1, 8; 6:23; Galatians 5:22-23. Grades 4-5 read Romans3:23; 5:1, 8; 6:23; James 4:17; Galatians 5:22-23. What is sin? (In children’s church we talk about sin as “doing wrong in God’s eyes.”) What will Jesus do if we admit our sin? Why is it important for us to be forgiven by Jesus for our sins?

When you walk along the road: We all struggle with sin. The good news is that, if you have asked Jesus to be Lord of your life, whenever you make a wrong choice, you can admit your sin to God and ask Him to forgive you. Take a moment right now to pray; ask Jesus to show you the sin in your life and ask Him to forgive you.

When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: Dear Jesus, we are sorry for sinning (doing wrong in Your eyes). Thank You for Your forgiveness. Help us to make right choices that please You. Amen.”

When you get up: There is great hope in following Jesus. Even when life is difficult or we feel like we are failing, we can find joy in Him. Have each family choose a Bible verse that reminds them about forgiveness, hope, or keeping our eyes on Jesus. Hang them somewhere in your home where they will remind and encourage you of the life we have in Jesus!
