This weekend in children's church, we begin the season of Advent. Advent means“coming.” Advent helps us get our hearts ready to celebrate the coming of Jesus. We will hear how God sent His angel Gabriel to tell Zechariah the good news.
Ages 4-K Whisper Verse: “God sent the angel.”
When you sit at home: Age 3- Grade 2 read Luke 1:11-22, 62-64. Grade 3 reads Luke 1:11-13, 16-20, 62-64 and Grades 4-5 read Luke 1:5-25, 62-65. Because Zechariah didn’t believe God would send them a baby, God caused him to not be able to speak until the baby was born. How do you think being quiet helped prepare Zechariah’s heart for God to come near to Him?
When you walk along the road: God came near to us when He sent Jesus. All who believe in Jesus have life forever close with God.In what other ways have you felt God come near to you? What things do you do to come near to God?
When you lie down: Pray this prayer each day this week: “Lord, thank You for coming near to us by sending Jesus. Help us get our hearts ready in the coming weeks to celebrate His birth. Amen.”
When you get up: Play Miracle Charades to experience Zechariah’s challenge of using hand motions for words. Players secretly choose a miracle and act it out without using words. Other players guess the miracle. Some sample miracles to use are God made the world, the animals boarded Noah’s ark,God parted the Red Sea, God sent manna from heaven, the wall of Jericho fell down, God gave us baby Jesus.
